IRCTC reports over 5% improvement in completed Tatkal bookings during the first three minutes on its new beta platform
New Delhi: Passengers trying to secure Tatkal tickets may see a smoother booking experience with the latest changes introduced by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
The railway ticketing platform has been testing a new beta website aimed at making online reservations faster and easier to navigate. According to IRCTC, the new platform has shown an improvement of more than 5% in completed Tatkal bookings during the first three minutes of the booking window.
The company also reported an improvement of around 3% in bookings completed within the first five minutes and more than 2% in bookings completed within 30 minutes.
What Has Changed on the IRCTC Website?
The updated IRCTC platform has been designed to simplify the ticket booking process. One of the changes allows passengers to view seat availability across different travel classes on the same screen.
This can make it easier to compare options such as Sleeper, AC 3 Tier and AC 2 Tier before selecting a ticket.
IRCTC has also worked on reducing repeated CAPTCHA requirements and other interruptions that can slow down the booking process, particularly when a large number of passengers are accessing the website at the same time.
Online Ticket Booking Continues to Grow
Online railway ticket booking has become the preferred option for a large number of passengers. IRCTC said that online ticket bookings accounted for 89.84% of total bookings in July 2026.
The growing use of online reservations is also helping reduce dependence on physical reservation counters and shifting more of the ticketing process to digital platforms.
What Does the Change Mean for Tatkal Passengers?
Tatkal tickets are usually in high demand, with a large number of passengers attempting to book seats as soon as the booking window opens. In such a situation, even small improvements in website performance can make a difference.
The new IRCTC platform is intended to reduce delays and make the booking process more straightforward. However, faster website performance does not guarantee a ticket, as availability still depends on the train, route, travel date, class and demand.
Passengers planning to book Tatkal tickets should keep their journey and passenger details ready before the booking window opens.
IRCTC Beta Website Still Under Development
The new website is currently being tested as a beta platform. IRCTC is expected to continue refining the system based on passenger feedback and its performance.
