Gondia could soon receive a major connectivity boost, with a direct flight to Mumbai expected to begin before Diwali. The development came to light during a press conference held during the visit of senior NCP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Praful Patel to Gondia.

Patel said discussions with airline companies regarding the proposed Gondia-Mumbai flight route are progressing positively. Passenger demand and expected traffic are being evaluated as efforts continue to make the proposed service commercially sustainable.

Gondia had previously received direct air services to Indore and Hyderabad. However, those services were later discontinued after passenger numbers remained below expectations. Patel indicated that the Mumbai route could have better potential because of regular passenger movement between Gondia and Mumbai.

If introduced, the direct flight could make travel between Gondia and Mumbai more convenient and provide easier access to Mumbai for residents of Gondia and surrounding areas.

Road Connectivity Plans Gain Momentum

Air connectivity was not the only major issue discussed during the visit. Road infrastructure and highway connectivity were also highlighted as important development priorities for the region.

Work related to connecting Gondia and Gadchiroli with the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg is progressing, with the land acquisition process reportedly moving towards its final stage.

Improved highway connectivity is expected to benefit areas such as Amgaon, Deori, Tirora and Tumsar. Proposals involving bypass roads and flyovers are also being pursued to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Railway Connectivity Remains a Key Demand

Railway infrastructure and passenger facilities in the region were also discussed. Efforts are reportedly continuing to secure additional train stoppages and improve railway connectivity in Gondia.

The demand for a Delhi-Durg Express stoppage at Gondia, along with stops for important trains at Amgaon and Salekasa, remains an important issue for the region.

A proposal concerning the relocation of the goods-handling facility near Hirdamali Railway Station is also being processed. The move is aimed at reducing the movement of heavy vehicles through Gondia city. A proposed flyover near Bhimnagar Railway Crossing is another infrastructure project under discussion.

Political Issues Also Discussed

During the press conference, Patel was questioned about the possibility of NCP getting a role in the Union Cabinet. He said that the decision regarding the composition of the Union Council of Ministers falls under the authority of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the OBC-Maratha reservation issue, Patel said that the concerns and expectations of different communities should be heard and considered by the government before taking any decision.

Gondia-Mumbai Flight Now in Focus

For residents of Gondia, the proposed direct Mumbai flight remains the biggest talking point following Patel's visit. If discussions with airlines conclude successfully, the service could become an important development for the region's air connectivity before Diwali.
