Bhandara, September 23, 2026: A young tigress died in a tragic incident in the Gadegaon area of Bhandara district on Tuesday evening, raising concern among forest officials and wildlife enthusiasts. The approximately three-and-a-half-year-old tigress was found dead near National Highway-6 in Gadegaon. Preliminary information suggests that she may have been hit by a speeding vehicle. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination and investigation.

Tigress Found Dead Near Ashok Leyland Factory

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 6:50 PM on Tuesday in front of the Gadegaon Timber Depot, near the Ashok Leyland factory. The area is located close to the Koka Wildlife Sanctuary and Bhandara territorial forest. The tigress was reportedly crossing the highway when she was allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle.

The impact reportedly killed the tigress on the spot. After receiving information about the incident, the forest department team reached the location and took the carcass into custody for further proceedings.

Vehicle Driver Reportedly Fled the Spot

According to preliminary reports, the vehicle involved in the incident has not yet been identified. Some eyewitnesses reportedly claimed to have seen the vehicle hitting the tigress. The driver allegedly fled the spot after the incident. The forest department is investigating the matter.

Different Claims Emerge Over the Tigress's Death

Following the incident, different claims and discussions have emerged locally regarding the circumstances surrounding the tigress's death. Some people have claimed that the tigress may have been killed elsewhere and that her carcass was later placed near the highway.

However, there is currently no official confirmation of this claim. Therefore, it cannot be treated as an established fact. The actual cause of death is expected to become clear only after the post-mortem examination and investigation of the scene.

Post-Mortem Expected to Establish Cause of Death

The forest department has taken the tigress's carcass into custody and initiated the post-mortem process. The examination will assess the injuries on the body and other relevant evidence. This may help determine whether the tigress died in a road accident or whether another cause was involved.

Preliminary information suggests that the tigress may have been the offspring of a well-known tigress from the Koka area. However, this information will also require official confirmation from the concerned forest authorities.

Concerns Over Wildlife Safety on the Highway

The Gadegaon area is located close to forest and wildlife habitat, making wildlife movement across the highway a recurring safety concern. The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by wild animals from fast-moving vehicles on highways passing through or near forest areas.

Following the death of the tigress, concerns have been raised over vehicle speed control, safe wildlife movement and measures to prevent road accidents involving wild animals in the area.

Investigation Will Establish the Full Picture

Several questions remain surrounding the tigress's death. While a road accident is being considered as a possible cause, the other claims circulating locally also require verification. The post-mortem report and forest department investigation will be crucial in establishing the actual circumstances and cause of death.
