Mumbai: The death of Disha Salian, former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has once again come under the spotlight, more than six years after her death. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR and begun investigating the case following the Bombay High Court’s September 2, 2026 order directing the agency to take up the matter.
The development has also brought renewed attention to questions surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and long-standing claims about a possible connection between the two cases.
Following the registration of the new FIR, Bihar BJP MLA and relative of Sushant Singh Rajput, Neeraj Bablu, claimed that if the investigation into Disha Salian’s death uncovers evidence of a criminal conspiracy or murder, it could lead to renewed scrutiny of questions surrounding Sushant’s death.
CBI Takes Over Investigation After High Court Order
Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, had approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.
His petition raised questions about the earlier handling of the case and sought further investigation into the circumstances of her death.
On September 2, 2026, the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate the matter. The court asked the agency to register an FIR, record Satish Salian’s statement and conduct the investigation under the supervision of a senior officer.
Mumbai Police were also directed to provide the relevant records to the CBI.
The court made it clear that the investigation should determine the facts based on available evidence. If the CBI finds that no criminal offence has been established, the agency can submit an appropriate report before the court.
New CBI FIR Includes Serious Allegations
The CBI registered an FIR in the Disha Salian case in September 2026. According to media reports, the FIR includes provisions relating to allegations such as criminal conspiracy, murder, gang rape, destruction of evidence and providing false information.
These allegations are yet to be established through the investigation.
The registration of an FIR does not by itself establish that the allegations are true or that any person named in connection with a case is guilty. The final findings will depend on the evidence collected and examined by the investigating agency.
Disha Salian Died on June 8, 2020
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Mumbai Police conducted an initial investigation into the incident.
Six days later, on June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment in Bandra.
The close timing of the two deaths led to extensive public discussion and numerous claims on social media linking the cases.
However, no criminal conspiracy or direct connection between the two deaths was established by investigating agencies in the earlier investigations.
The fresh CBI investigation into Disha Salian’s death has now brought the question back into public discussion: could the new investigation uncover any evidence connecting the two cases?
At present, there is no confirmed answer.
What Did Neeraj Bablu Claim?
After the CBI registered the FIR, Neeraj Bablu said that the investigation could potentially reveal important facts about what happened to Disha Salian.
He claimed that if evidence of murder or a criminal conspiracy emerges, the findings could raise fresh questions about the circumstances surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death as well.
Bablu also made allegations against the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray at the time.
He claimed that efforts were made to influence or suppress the investigation into the two cases and alleged that important evidence may have been affected.
Claims That ‘Influential Names’ Could Emerge
Neeraj Bablu has also claimed that a detailed and impartial investigation could bring several important facts to light and potentially raise questions about the involvement of influential individuals.
However, it would be premature to conclude who, if anyone, could face criminal liability before the investigation is completed.
Various names and theories have appeared in media reports and public discussions over the years. Their relevance to the case, if any, will have to be determined by investigators on the basis of evidence.
What Was the CBI’s Earlier Finding in the Sushant Singh Rajput Case?
The CBI had investigated Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and filed a closure report in March 2025.
According to reports on the closure report, the agency did not find sufficient evidence to establish murder or abetment of suicide.
The investigation also examined forensic evidence and other material related to the circumstances of Sushant’s death.
The closure report was placed before the concerned court, which was required to consider the report and determine the next legal course.
Reports regarding the forensic findings also stated that the evidence examined by experts did not support claims of poisoning or strangulation.
The agency’s 2025 closure report was reported as finding insufficient evidence to establish murder or abetment of suicide.
What Happens Next in the Disha Salian Case?
The CBI is now expected to examine the available police records, documents, forensic material, witness statements and other evidence connected with Disha Salian’s death.
A key part of the investigation will be to establish the sequence of events surrounding June 8, 2020 and determine whether the available evidence points towards a criminal offence.
The agency is also required to record the statement of Disha’s father, Satish Salian, as directed by the High Court.
Investigators will have to assess the evidence independently before reaching any conclusion about what happened.
Will the Investigation Establish a Link Between Disha and Sushant’s Deaths?
There is no definitive answer to that question at present.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, while Sushant Singh Rajput died six days later on June 14.
The short gap between the two incidents became the basis for years of public speculation and political debate.
However, the timing of two events alone does not establish a criminal connection. Such a link would require credible evidence connecting the circumstances, individuals or events involved in the two cases.
The ongoing CBI investigation may determine whether any new evidence exists in relation to Disha Salian’s death. Whether that evidence has any relevance to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death remains to be established.
Six Years Later, the Case Is Back Under Investigation
More than six years after Disha Salian’s death, the case has returned to the centre of public attention following the Bombay High Court’s order and the CBI’s registration of a fresh FIR.
The case has attracted particular attention because Sushant Singh Rajput died just six days after Disha Salian.
At the same time, the two cases should not be treated as connected as a matter of fact unless investigators establish such a connection through evidence.
The CBI’s investigation into Disha Salian’s death will now be closely watched for any new findings regarding the circumstances of her death.
Whether those findings have any direct bearing on the Sushant Singh Rajput case will become clear only if the investigation produces relevant and legally admissible evidence.

The agency will now examine the evidence and circumstances surrounding her death.
Political statements and allegations made after the FIR have also revived the long-standing debate over whether her death and Sushant Singh Rajput’s death were connected.
At present, however, such a connection has not been established as a fact.
The CBI’s earlier investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death did not find sufficient evidence to establish murder or abetment of suicide, according to reports on its 2025 closure report.
The new investigation into Disha Salian’s death may provide further clarity about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Until the investigation is completed, allegations, theories and political claims should not be treated as final findings.
