Police action against illegal activities continues in Tumsar, Bhandara district. During a special drive conducted from June 1 to August 21, 2026, Tumsar Police registered 17 cases related to sand theft and illegal transportation. Action was taken against 24 people, while sand and vehicles used for transportation were seized. The total value of the seized property ₹1 crore 33 lakh 81 thousand.
The campaign was undertaken to strengthen law and order and prevent various illegal activities in the Tumsar area. Along with action against illegal sand transportation, police also conducted operations against illegal liquor, gambling, matka activities and prohibited tobacco sales.
17 Sand Theft Cases Registered in Tumsar
As part of the special drive, Tumsar Police detected 17 cases involving illegal sand extraction and transportation. A total of 24 accused persons faced police action in these cases.
Police seized sand and vehicles allegedly used to transport the material. The combined value of the seized property in the sand-related cases was reported to be ₹1.33 crore.
37 Cases Filed in Illegal Liquor Drive
The police campaign also targeted the illegal liquor trade. During the enforcement period, 37 cases were registered and action was taken against 39 accused persons.
Property valued at approximately ₹14 lakh 58 thousand 450 was seized during the action against illegal liquor-related activities.
Gambling and Matka Operations Also Targeted
Tumsar Police also carried out operations against gambling and matka activities. During the drive, 20 cases were registered and 29 individuals faced action.
Police reported seizure of property worth ₹54,322 in connection with these gambling and matka cases.
Action Against Prohibited Tobacco Products
Police also conducted action against the sale of flavoured and prohibited tobacco products. A total of 3 cases were registered, with action taken against 4 accused persons.
The value of the seized material in these cases was approximately ₹1 lakh 39 thousand 922.
According to the police, the seized material during the overall campaign included liquor, cash, gambling-related items, sand, vehicles allegedly used for sand transportation and other articles.
Seven People Externed From the Area
Preventive action was also initiated against individuals allegedly involved in repeated unlawful activities. Under the Maharashtra Police Act, 7 externment proposals were approved.
Of these, 5 proposals were approved under Section 56, 1 under Section 55 and 1 under Section 57. The concerned individuals were subsequently externed from the specified area.
Police have also filed 4 additional proposals, including 3 under Sections 56 and 57 and 1 under the MPDA Act.
Operation Conducted Under Senior Police Officers
The special enforcement campaign was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Nurul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Nilesh More and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shivam Visapure.
The operation in Tumsar was led by Police Inspector Subhash Barse. Police teams carried out action against illegal sand transportation, liquor, gambling, matka operations, prohibited tobacco products and other unlawful activities.

Police have indicated that the crackdown on unlawful activities in the region will continue. Enforcement against illegal sand transportation, illicit liquor, gambling, matka operations, prohibited tobacco sales and other activities will remain a priority.
