Bhandara Schoolgirls Question Police Over Safety After Harassment Incident

Bhandara News: A video of schoolgirls confronting police over their safety has gone viral on social media, bringing renewed attention to the concerns faced by female students travelling to and from schools in Bhandara.

The incident comes at a time when the district is already witnessing heightened concern over the safety of children following the recent case involving a three-year-old girl. Against this backdrop, a group of schoolgirls reportedly took to the streets after alleging that a man had been taking photographs of them at a bus stop with an alleged intention to harass them.

The students staged a protest at the bus stop and questioned the police response to the incident. Their emotional confrontation with police and the administration was captured on video and has since been widely circulated on social media.

During the protest, one of the students questioned why stronger action had not been taken against the person allegedly involved in photographing the girls.

“We were sitting at the bus stop when a man was taking our photographs. We handed him over to the police, but what happened afterwards? We saw the same person again asking girls for their phone numbers,” the student said in the viral video.

She also questioned the police response after the emergency helpline was contacted and asked why the accused had not been dealt with more firmly at the spot.

Police officials explained that calls made through the 112 emergency response system are recorded centrally and that officers are required to reach the location promptly. According to the police, personnel had reached the spot within the required response time.

However, the explanation did not appear to satisfy the protesting students, who continued to raise questions about their safety.

Students Highlight Problems Faced by Girls From Rural Areas

One of the students also spoke about the difficulties faced by girls travelling to Bhandara from villages for their education.

She said students often have to wait at bus stops because public transport may not always be available on time. During these waiting periods, they allegedly face uncomfortable situations and harassment.

“We do not sit at the bus stop because we want to. Our parents send us to the city so that we can study. But when we come here, who is responsible for our safety?” the student asked.

Her remarks highlighted concerns among students who depend on public transport for their daily commute.

Students Demand Action Within Two Days

The protest also saw students questioning bystanders and officials over their response to the situation.

One student challenged people who were merely watching the protest instead of supporting the girls. She also directly questioned an administrative official about what would happen if the authorities failed to provide justice within two days.

The students demanded stronger action against people involved in harassment and called for better security arrangements around bus stops and other places where school and college students regularly gather.

For some time, the protest affected traffic and disrupted normal movement in the area. The incident has now sparked a wider discussion on the safety of female students in Bhandara and the need for authorities to respond more effectively to complaints of harassment.

The authenticity, context and complete sequence of the viral video should be independently verified by the concerned authorities before drawing conclusions from individual statements made during the protest.
