Bhandara News: Questions have been raised over the quality of mid-day meals served to students in Zilla Parishad schools in Bhandara district. Congress MP Dr. Prashant Padole reportedly visited several schools to inspect the mid-day meal arrangements. During the inspection, claims were made that moldy potatoes, expired spices and unhygienic conditions were found in the kitchens.
Food Ingredients Inspected at Schools
Congress MP Dr. Prashant Padole inspected the food ingredients being used for the mid-day meal programme at Zilla Parishad schools. The inspection reportedly focused on the quality of food items, expiry dates and cleanliness in the kitchens.
According to the claims made during the inspection, some spices and other food products were found to have passed their expiry dates. Some of the potatoes stored for cooking were also reportedly found to be spoiled and affected by mold.
The alleged use of such food items in meals prepared for students has raised concerns about food safety and children's health. A detailed inquiry into the matter has therefore been demanded.
Questions Raised Over Kitchen Hygiene
Concerns have also been raised regarding hygiene in the kitchens where mid-day meals are prepared. According to the inspection-related claims, unhygienic conditions and foul smells were noticed at some locations.
Since meals are prepared for students on a daily basis, maintaining proper hygiene and ensuring safe storage of food ingredients are essential. The reported findings have therefore raised questions about the monitoring of the mid-day meal system.
Prashant Padole Demands Detailed Inquiry
Dr. Prashant Padole has reportedly demanded an immediate and detailed inquiry into the matter so that the facts can be established.
He has maintained that if the investigation confirms that substandard or expired food ingredients were supplied for the mid-day meal programme, appropriate action should be taken against the concerned suppliers, contractors and responsible officials.
Padole has also reportedly warned of an agitation if appropriate action is not taken by the administration.
Concern Over Students' Health
The mid-day meal scheme is intended to provide students with safe and nutritious food. Regular checks of food quality, expiry dates, storage conditions and kitchen hygiene are therefore important.
