Bhandara, Maharashtra: The Bhandara district administration has imposed strict restrictions on the use of Dolby sound systems, high-power speakers and modified vehicle sound systems during the upcoming festival season.
District Collector and District Magistrate Sawan Kumar issued the order on September 4, 2026, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). The restrictions will remain in force from 12:00 midnight on September 4, 2026, until 11:59 PM on November 1, 2026.
The order covers various high-powered audio setups, including Dolby sound systems with top, mid and bass units, plasma sound systems, pressurised sound systems and other high-power sound equipment. The administration has also restricted the use of vehicles fitted with modified or additional sound systems for public use during the specified period.
The restrictions have been introduced ahead of major celebrations and public events, including Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Dussehra and other festival programmes mentioned in the official notification. Authorities have expressed concern over excessive noise and its potential impact on the public.
According to the notification, excessive noise can create difficulties for senior citizens, young children, pregnant women and patients. The administration has also referred to the permissible noise limits prescribed under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
The district administration has warned that violating the order may lead to legal action under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Police and concerned local authorities have been informed and directed to take necessary action to ensure compliance.
The restrictions are expected to significantly affect the use of DJ, Dolby and high-powered sound systems at public celebrations across Bhandara district until November 1.
