New Delhi : Mobile SIM Card Rule: Mobile users across the country should take note of a new development concerning SIM card registrations. The government has moved to tighten the process for issuing multiple mobile connections under a single individual’s name.
Under the revised limit, a person who already has 9 SIM connections registered in their name will not be eligible for another, 10th connection. Telecom operators have been instructed to put mechanisms in place to identify customers who attempt to cross the prescribed limit.
Telecom Companies Asked to Strengthen Verification
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a circular dated August 17, directing telecom service providers to introduce suitable technical and administrative measures for detecting attempts to obtain SIM cards beyond the permitted limit.
The move means that when a customer who has already reached the maximum number of permitted connections applies for another SIM, the operator will identify the account as having crossed the prescribed limit and inform the customer accordingly.
What Happens After 9 SIM Connections?
Customers with 9 SIM cards already registered in their name will not be issued an additional mobile connection once the new process takes effect.
The measure is aimed at improving oversight of mobile connections and reducing the possibility of SIM cards being obtained or used improperly.
Check SIM Cards Registered in Your Name
With the new requirement set to take effect from August 24, mobile users may want to verify how many connections are currently registered under their identity.
